Wouldn't know Ed, your Government helpfully told me to leave as my place was required for non English, non EU nationals and thus made me a foreigner in my selected country of choice. They didn't however refuse to take a shed load of tax from me for the privilege of making me an outsider.

Strangely enough Roger, when I came here (on the request of IBM NL) I was working 80 Hours a week, flew around the world and also managed to fit in the Dutch courses here in Enkhuizen where because of my Passport and income I had to pay for myself. To be told by the authorities you are not welcome to integrate into our culture but we are happy to take your the majority of your money in taxes left a bitter taste. If your government isn't interested in me integrating why should I bother. Bitter and Twisted, you don't know the half of it.

Gelul natuurlijk. Integreren (wat je overigens prima gelukt is) doe je niet omdat een overheid dat wil maar omdat je ergens met, tussen en samen met de mensen wilt leven.

I was asked to give up my self paid place on the Dutch Integration course for a non EU non English speaking foreigner as it was deemed by your National Government unnecessary for me to learn your language or culture even though I was willing to learn and pay for the privilege. I also asked the language teacher to coach me privately for a fee, he too refused on the grounds that he thought it unnecessary for English speaking EU nationals to learn Dutch.

Bizar hoe een overheid zo omgaat met een welwillend (excuus voor de wat soepsappigheid) persoon die zich door oa de taal een tweede thuis wil maken.

totaal niet relevant, maar toch, dat enkhuizen is wel schitterend !
uitermate sfeervol en gezellig, met name op en rondom de jachthavens.

Wat een slap gelul! Alsof je per se naar een cursus moet om NL te leren! Maat van me heeft z'n vrouw geïmporteerd uit Jamaica en die praat vanaf het begin gewoon alleen Nederlands tegen haar. Zij is hier nu een aantal jaar en praat prima Nederlands.

Overigens zal het mij persoonlijk jeuken of nu en Engels of NL praat zolang ik je maar kan verstaan. Met Phil praat ik ook Engels, maar doe niet net of het door een ander komt dat JIJ verzuimt hebt in al die jaren NL te leren.

Dat vind ik echt te zielig voor woorden!

Het gaat om de wil, niet of de een of andere lul van de overheid je mee of tegen werkt. Dingen zijn je eigen verantwoordelijkheid, niet die van een ander.
