Gloeistiften Disco 3

Gister bij goede vrienden geweest,bezitten sinds een krap jaar een disco 3.
Gekocht bij 120 K op de teller, nu inmiddels 180 K op de teller.

Bij de onlangs geleverde grote beurt zijn ook de gloeistiften vernieuwd.
Maar wat ik erg vreemd vindt, ze moeten nog steeds minimaal 10 seconden voorgloeien voordat de auto start.
Is dat normaal bij een disco 3??

Mijn 200 tdi, niks voorgloeien, zelfs niet in de winter(wat ik overigens wel een beetje doe, wat me motorisch qwa lijfsbehoud beter lijkt)

The Voorgloeisysteem in the Disco 3 is not a simple on/off one as you may have realised. The phase and duration is controlled by the ECM and uses the Coolant Temperature as the primary sensor. There are 5 fuse links and 2 separate relays in the system too.

To check the gloeistiften is easy. Under the acoustic engine cover either side of the oil filter there are two multi-plugs one black one brown, these have 3 pins each. You can check the resistance of each of the plugs using a multi meter from the pin to earth, a typical value should be around 0.003 - 0.005 ohm. On the other side of the plug you can check that you have a voltage when the ignition is in position II on cold start and during cranking (usual safety precautions must be followed). 10 seconds is not impossible but a bit long in the current tropical weather ;)

If you get a high resistance from the gloeistiften then they are dead, zero volts from the supplys then I'd be checking fuses and relays.

Any failure in the system will log fault codes which can be read out (Fault Codes P038300, P038400 and P038500) a generic fault code reader will give only the first 5 digits ;)
