... well if we wish to be pedantic about it, the one in the blue box is a pattern part made in the same factory as the OEM part, the one in the silver box is a Lucas item, the one in the green box is a Lucas item and the one in the white and green box is also a Lucas item.

Now I don't like items in blue boxes, but in this case I would be fitting the white blokje not the blue box

... now that's an interesting question Roger, you see it's all to do with licences and patents.

If you manufacture an item for a company under licence or you yourself manufacture an item and sell it then there is a limited time span that that item is protected for, after that time then the restrictions governing the intellectual property of that item expire and it is possible to manufacture that item quite legally so long as you clearly state that it is not the original part and is not connected in any way with the original part.

Now coming to items in the Blue Box, a large number of those are manufactured in separate factories using cheaper materials and less stringent tolerances etc etc hence the reduction in price and the reduction in quality.

In this particular case then the white blokje is still manufactured in a single location and sold globally by 4 companies, one of those companies is quite happy to accept the moulding without identification markings on it whilst the others all have theirs going through an additional process. As the item is still a current Land Rover item, only recently given a new Part Number by the way to identify it as Genuine not OEM then Lucas don't openly publicise that they do this but believe you me certain items in certain boxes are the same the world over, the trick is knowing which item is which and knowing it's source.
