Tips voor Greenlanen in Wales?

Hallo,

Heeft er iemand ervaring en tips voor een 4x4 'greenlane' trip naar Wales?
We hebben het plan om met ca. 6-7 auto's te gaan Greenlanen in Wales.

Wat is de beste periode?
Tips voor accomodatie? Is er ergens een vaste basisaccomodatie vanwaar dagtrips te maken zijn?
Zelf organiseren of zijn er goede bedrijven/clubs die iets organiseren?

6-7 auto's is best een grote groep om nog overal als "welkom" gezien te worden, ook de britten raken meer en meer in de ban van het anti-4x4 en pro-natuur gevoel. overweeg de groep in twee te splitsen, dat vindt de omgeving minder storend dan een grote groep

Do not and I repeat DO NOT just go out and drive where you think you can. Get in touch with the local "Rights-of-Way Officer" at the council offices (you can look them up on the interweb if you know where you are going) and ask for the definitive maps. Most ROW Officers also go out Green Laning and are (on the whole) friendly chaps and chapesses. The local 4WD Club should also have a ROW Officer who will help out.

Even if the Ordanance Survey Map says it's a BOAT, RUPP or Unsurfaced Road do not assume this is current, and there could be (and probably are) TRO's in force. On this point you must understand the terminology.

British Ramblers are probably the most anti 4x4 creature on Gods Earth and if you are unfortunate to meet one when driving legally on a Green Lane I strongly recommenced that you have all of the current documentation to hand to prove you are legally allowed to be there, this includes identification, insurance, vehicle papers, OS Map, GPS with current location in Lon and Lat, Definitive Map from ROW, and permission from Landowner always helps (yes I know they are public roads but they cross peoples land). If you don't then believe you me the bloody Rambler will have everything on them to prove that you aren't allowed there (my sister is a member of the Ramblers Association, I hate her)

Gates ... If they are open leave them open, if they are closed close them. There is nothing worse than some bloody do-gooder closing a gate that was purposely left open or conversely letting all 200 head of sheep out to play with next doors Ram.

If you see someone shooting with a Gun. STOP. Do not assume they have seen you, they are too busy concentrating on bagging a brace of Rambler, sorry Pheasant, they will not have seen or heard you. Attract their attention (no not like that) and proceed quietly.

Horses, please do not annoy them or the riders, they are second only to Ramblers and the equipment they have at their disposal can seriously damage your small Land Rover. Pull over and let them pass.

The Welsh ...Good Luck, we Scots have never found a solution to that one, I'm afraid you're on your own.

Rob, jouw combinatie van nuttige informatie en humor, geweldig!!

Wij gaan dit jaar ook naar de UK (Cornwall/Devon) en dit zijn vast tips waar ik ook wat aan heb. Nog even uitzoeken wat de termen allemaal betekenen en waar de R.O.W.-officer te vinden is.

Yes, by all means employ homeless Tamils to eradicate the Ramblers, they have a history of freedom fighting and should be perfect for the Job.

However I would use the 3rd link and Torbay Council will have an ROW officer. I have a good friend and Land Rover owner who lives in Plymouth, I'll get some information from him and post it.

Wales is echt prachtig incl de mensen (sorry Rob), heb er een stukje over geschreven in het LRCH blad een paar maanden terug. Daar staan ook wat links bij, maar als je de routes wil plannen kun je contact opnemen met de Llanerchinda Farm http://www.cambrianway.com/, de zoon van de eigenaar is voorzitter van de lokale Greenlane Association (GLASS) chapter, en weet precies tot op pad nauwkeurig waar wel en waar niet te rijden is. Zoals gezegd: je moet echt goed weten of het kan, en dan is er geen issue. Wij zijn ook een keer gestopt door een lokaal boertje in een 90 pickup, wilde weten waar wij met onze "posh" landrovers naartoe gingen. Na wat kat uit de boom kijken, kwam ie met allemaal aanvullende tips (waar we door het dialect weinig van begrepen trouwens). De Farm is ook een mooie uitvalsbasis, mocht je nog niet gepland hebben waar te slapen. Oh ja, de groep is wel te groot. beter opsplitsen en gezamenlijk in het veld lunchen.
