Powerspark

Kan een setje elektronische ontsteking kopen van powerspark.
Dat lijkt me wel wat voor mijn series 3 uit 71 maar die is 24V.
Is dat belangrijk voor een elektronische ontsteking?

lijkt me wel, als je 24v zet op een component dat voor 12v bedoeld is dan jaag je er dus twee keer zoveel stroom doorheen, over het algemeen wordt dat niet gewaardeerd door het component..... zeker elektronica kan maar slecht tegen overspanning

Actually your 24V Land Rover isn't exactly what it says on the tin. You see good old Land Rover used a ballast resistor for the ignition system and stepped down the primary voltage to the coil to around 11V. So it's the same as a normal 12V system.

However, and here in lies the problem. The distributor (verdeler) is totally different to a 12V item and none of the electronic ignition kits that I have seen on the market will fit either the base plate or rotor. The Powerspark kits fit the 25D and 45D 12V items but not the 24V. What you can do however is to replace the coil, distributor ( and distributor mounting plate) and spark plugs for 12V items and then go the electronic ignition route.

Dank je Rob, duidelijk antwoord!
Denk dat ik het maar bij het oude laat dan. De bougies zijn overigens al aangepast door de vorige eigenaar, zitten standaard NGK in met normale bougiedoppen maar het ontstekingshuis is nog wel origineel.
Zoveel beter zal het ook niet zijn tov de originele ontsteking met puntjes.

Yes it's a lovely bit of prose, so why is it that my 24V Petrol Lightweight which lives outside, has no roof, door tops or windscreen so it totally open to the elements, starts first time every time on the first turn of the starter, including on 4th February 2012 when the temperature was -22c

Might it have something to do with the fact that the original 24V Ignition system is totally waterproof and that apart from the fact that a 24V starter motor hardly has to work at all to turn the engine over it also is a bit better at attaining the 10V to get a decent spark out of the coil. Oh and I cannot remember the last time I had a problem with the points

Please remember that if you do decide to change the distributor for a 12V item then you will need to change the triangular base plate on the engine where the distributor enters the block as the diameter of the shaft is different, so you will need 549610 or 549672 depending on the length of the distributor shaft and clamp 245003.

Wellicht, als er toch veel veranderd "moet" dan zou een echte "redesigned" 123-ignition ook de betrouwbaarheid van het traditionele 24 V systeem kunnen evenaren. Hoe het staat met de water-gevoeligheid van de 123's weet ik niet, wel weet ik dat het mijn "eerste keuze" zou zijn als ik benzine reed.
Vlgs mij zijn er hier ook ervaringsdeskundigen die beter onderbouwde aanbevelingen kunnen geven.
