... I find that quite surprising as the Rover 3.5 V8 is 55 years old this year and has been in just about everything that it would fit. It is one of the simplest of engines to work on and requires very little technical knowledge to make it work.
There is a very useful manual on the LRCH kennisbank, http://lrch.nl/kennisbank/v8-engine-tuning-manual, which should cover most of your problems. As you have a 1986 Ninety V8 then it should have SU carburettors rather than the Stromberg 175-CD units.
Oh and while you are there it may be worth a look at the LT85 Gearbox manual, http://lrch.nl/kennisbank/lt85-split-ca ... box-manual, too as that is what should be fitted to your vehicle too.
Running problems when hot with the V8 are normally associated with fuel evaporation, ignition condensor and ignition amplifier.
